Bangladesh: 21-Year-Old Hindu Woman Gang-Raped in Comilla, BNP Leader Among 5 Arrested

A horrifying incident has come to light from Bangladesh, where a Hindu girl was gang-raped inside her home. The case has sparked widespread outrage among Hindu organisations, prompting protests and demands for the death penalty for the accused. As per reports so far, police have arrested all five individuals, including a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), in connection with the crime.

Incident Occurred in the Comilla Area

The gang rape took place in Comilla, where the assailants broke into the girl's house and committed the crime. The main accused, Fazur Ali, along with four others, has been arrested. Hindu students from Dhaka University held a major protest demanding justice for the victim.

Video of the Gang Rape Recorded and Shared

All the accused belong to the Muslim religion. They not only committed the rape but also recorded a video of the act and circulated it on social media. The incident took place in the Comilla district's Ramchandrapur Panchkitta village, which is under Muradnagar police station. According to reports, the crime happened on June 26.

Attack Occurred During Rath Yatra Festivities

The assailants found the opportunity to enter the girl's home when the local Hindu community was celebrating the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath on the night of June 26. Fazur Ali is the prime accused for this crime, who is a 38-year-old local BNP leader. He was the first to reach the victim’s home and knocked on the door. When the woman refused to open it, he forced his way in and raped her. He was soon joined by four accomplices who also gang-raped the woman.

Accused Escaped from Locals' Grip

Initially, local residents managed to catch one of the attackers, but Fazur Ali managed to escape during the commotion. Once the video of the gang rape went viral on social media, anger spread throughout the Hindu community. Police have since taken Fazur Ali and four others, including the person who filmed the crime, into custody. Legal proceedings have begun against all five accused.

The victim is said to be around 25 years old and had returned to her father’s home just 15 days before the incident. During the attack, the woman pleaded with the assailants to spare her dignity, but they showed no mercy.
